Words from the Benchmonster:

Hello, Welcome to Benchmonster.com. As you may or may not know, my name is Ryan “Benchmonster” Kennelly. I live and work in Kennewick, Washington, as a Strength Coach at a private training facililty. I have been competitively powerlifting for 15 years, and general weightlifting for over 20 years. I started lifting weights my sophomore year in high school, due to the fact that I was smaller than most others and wanted to be bigger. I was obsessed with bench pressing and having big arms, as any teenager would be!

So, I started lifting seriously in the spring of ’92 at my local gym. I quickly realized that I had a knack for bench pressing and over the course of 3 years had upped my bench from 211 to 365. I wanted to be the strongest bench presser in my local gym and saw a powerlifting records board up on the wall. The top bench press in the gym at that time was 398 at 198 bodyweight. So I wanted to beat that and be #1. In the spring of 1998, after 4 years of working my ass off in the gym (sometimes benching every other day no matter how sore I was), I entered my first professional WABDL contest in Springfield, Oregon. It was there, on that day, I set a Washington state junior bench press record. My lifts that day, at 220 body weight were 407,440,457. It was then and there, I realized, not only had I become a state champion, but I also aspired to become a national, and a World champion!

I knew I had a gift and I didn’t want to waste it. It was this contest that kick-started it all and led me down a path that I have chosen in life. I have no regrets. I know now I was put on this earth to Bench press! During these past 15 years of  powerlifting, there have been a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns in my crazy life, no question. But, at the end of the day, no matter what happens, I always get up, stand tall, dust myself off and put one foot in front of the other because I am a Warrior and I don’t care about anything else, but being on top of the world and #1 at what I do.

It’s pure passion and fire that burns inside of me. I live and breath it each and everyday. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “No body, nothing is going to get in my way!” If you’re reading this, ask yourself how serious you are at what you do and if you share the same passion?  If you do then you’ve come to the right place www.benchmonster.com. Welcome aboard, lets get it on!!!!
